Cardiff City FC Community Foundation celebrated World Poetry Day with pupils from Mount Stuart Primary School.

Year five and six pupils from Mount Stuart Primary School picked out two of their favourite poems from the Premier League's 'Try, try again' poetry book to read aloud, focusing on improving their reading and articulation of the voice.

We are also delighted to announce on World Poetry Day that two pupils engaged with the Foundation emerged as Premier League Writing Stars poetry competition winners.

More than 25,000 primary school children across England and Wales have penned a poem for the second annual Writing Stars competition. Themed on diversity, the competition encouraged five to 11-years olds to explore what makes us 'Beautifully different, wonderfully the same' using a poem created for Writing Stars by poet Joseph Coelho.

Cara, 11, from Ysgol Y Berllan Deg in Llanedeyrn and Sam, 10, from Fairfield Primary School in Penarth emerged as winners.

As a reward for their efforts, both pupils will be presented with a framed copy of their winning poems by Casia William from Bardd Plant Cymru in a school assembly, before being joined by their classmates for a poetry workshop.

The Foundation recently celebrated the charities 10-year anniversary having invested more than £10 million into local sport and education programmes, supporting over 230,000 children and young people in the process.

You can help us support even more children and young people. We've launched an appeal that will support children with their reading and writing skills, find out more though the donation link below.
