Lansdowne Primary, Pencaerau Primary, Ninian Park Primary and Radnor Primary all travelled to Cardiff City Stadium on 4th December to learn from poetry experts Paul Cookson and David Brayley - who helped the children create a poem about resilience to fall in line with the Premier League Writing Stars competition.

Workshops were held to help the children with creative writing ideas, and the pupils then met with a group of elderly people - who they discussed memories of the stadium and sporting achievements with. They used these stories to help shape their poems once they returned to school.

Literacy Event (2)

The main outcomes of this event saw the children perception of poetry improve, making it fun and engaging - improving the children's ability to produce creative writing work, expanding their skills on how to write creative stories or poems, and demonstrating how football and sport can link with literacy.

Each school were also treated to a tour of Cardiff City Stadium, going behind the scenes and exploring the home of Cardiff City and the Welsh international football team, as well as receiving a poetry book and two Cardiff City match-day programmes.
