Cardiff City FC Foundation is supporting young people in secondary schools across South Wales through the Premier League Inspires project.

The project sets out to inspire children and young people to develop personal skills and positive attitudes to succeed in life.

Inspires supports participants engagement using the theme of football, and supports secondary schools to keep pupils present and committed whilst encouraging others to re-engage with school life.

Through the Premier League Inspires challenge, young people in Cardiff West Community High School, Treorchy Comprehensive School, Eastern High School and St Illtyd's High School are working on social action ideas that will make a positive difference to their own mental health and wellbeing, or that of people around them.

Youth social action allows young people to take practical action in the service of others to create positive change. This can include volunteering, fundraising, campaigning and supporting peers.

Social action provides a number of benefits to our communities whilst making young people feel valued, engaged and involved. It can create a greater sense of belonging and boost social cohesion and integration.

Once our young people have created their ideas, they will compete internally where a group winner from each school will be selected.

4 groups will advance from the heat stages and present their projects to a panel of judges and industry experts at Cardiff City Stadium.

The judges will provide positive feedback and pick a winner to represent Cardiff City at the finals in 2021,  competing against other Premier League and EFL clubs.

Football is a popular topic of conversation for people of all ages, genders and backgrounds. Using this shared interest and through Premier League Inspires challenge, we hope to raise awareness around positive mental health and encourage people to talk about how they think and feel.

Keep an eye out on our social media channels for weekly updates on how young people on the project are progressing!
