Congratulations go out to this year’s winners of the EFL Utilita Girls Cup in partnership with New Directions Education, Ysgol Bro Edern.

A great contest at Cardiff International Sports Campus saw the girls battle it out with their final game ending as a 0-0 draw with runners-up, Ysgol Garth Olwg.

Edern eventually broke the deadlock with a great strike into the top corner to seal the victory and walk away with the trophy, presented by members of the Cardiff City FC Women's team, who paid a visit to show their support.

The girls from Ysgol Bro Edern will now represent Cardiff City FC in the South West Regional Finals in Bristol, competing alongside the likes of Swansea City, Bristol City and Newport County in January 2020.

The tournament provides girls between the ages of 11 and 13 in secondary school the opportunity to take part in an exciting, competitive and enjoyable tournament run by the official charity of Cardiff City Football Club.

By encouraging girls to participate and develop a love for sport, the Bluebirds Charity is working alongside New Directions Education to build self-confidence and resilience within the young people that take part.

Cardiff City FC Foundation and New Directions Education have worked closely for over 10 years, providing opportunities for schools and young people in our communities to come together and play cross-borough and experience the positive impact of sport.
