Nadine's Story

After finding herself unemployed for over a year, Nadine was determined not to let her Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) get in the way of her ambitions…

Following a difficult time in school, Nadine received a late diagnosis of multiple Special Learning Difficulties and Autistic Spectrum Disorder at age 21, Nadine found herself unemployed - however she was determined not to let her Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Special Learning Difficulties (SPLD) get in the way of her ambitions.

Nadine enrolled on an Employability and Skills project with Cardiff City FC Foundation, which provides young people with support to develop their personal and social skills.

The project gave Nadine the experience and confidence to make the successful transition back into employment, and in turn, become less isolated. After completing the course, Nadine stayed in touch with us, initially as a volunteer.

Nadine has grown into an integral member of the Foundation team and is thriving in her role as an Inclusion Project Worker, supporting children and young people with a disability as well as educating our workforce on the importance of making our sessions inclusive for all.

Using sport as a tool, she helps to improve their physical health, social interaction, and confidence levels.

Alongside this work, Nadine has also been studying on our Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Administration - a partnership the Foundation holds with University of South Wales - and recently graduating with a 2:1 Upper Class Honours.

"The Foundation Degree staff catered for my needs by providing a blended learning style, several alternative options for practicals and events - they went the extra mile to support me.

"They changed my perspective on education - it’s a fantastic course for people who require alternative routes or have complex conditions just like me. Thank you so much."

Elizabeth, Nadine's Mum, said:

"Nadine never fails to amaze me with her achievements. Considering Nadine was not diagnosed with ASD until she was 21 this meant she lost out immensely in her education at school so to go on at the age of 24 to get a degree in BSc in Community Football Coaching & Administration is truly wonderful.

"She was able to achieve this with the help of her family and Cardiff City Foundation and not forgetting the amount of hard work that Nadine herself put into this."

Everyone at Cardiff City FC Foundation would like to congratulate Nadine on her achievements - we're all extremely proud of you!
