Our Active Bluebirds Project is designed to support young people aged 18-25 with their health and wellbeing.

The Bluebirds Charity have teamed up with the BUPA Foundation to run multi-sport sessions and workshops for these young people, one of whom is 20 year-old Josh Long.

“I found the Active Bluebirds Project through the Pentwyn Mental Health Centre, and it has been a brilliant course for me."

Having left school, Josh found himself becoming very inactive, and in turn, started to develop health and wellbeing issues, including mental health problems.

"Before I found out and joined this course, I wasn’t doing any sort of physical exercise. I did some volunteering work now and again, but I think this course has given me a new lease of life – it’s been amazing."

We encourage young people to lead healthier, more active lives through these sport-specific activity sessions in the shape of two, one-hour sessions a week and workshops covering current and relevant topics on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 3-4pm at Cardiff City House of Sport.

“I became a part of the Active Bluebirds Project because I wanted to improve my fitness. When I received information about the course it sounded like my sort of thing and I’ve enjoyed it from the very beginning.

“Since joining the project I’ve definitely come out my shell, I get up every day knowing that I can focus on something and I’ve got something to look forward to. I don’t want to go home after the sessions, I wish they were longer than an hour!"

The project also aims to create sustainable sport-participation opportunities in the community for young people once they complete the programme.

“After being on this course, it’s given me a passion for coaching. I know it will take me some time, but I think becoming a football coach would be so rewarding. I remember my primary school teachers teaching me as a child and learning new techniques from a role model type figure helped me, so I want to help others too.

It would make a huge impact on my future and my life. The environment we train in has been my inspiration, House of Sport is a brilliant facility and it’s helped me so much."
