Our Impact Success Stories Striving for Success The Foundation’s education ladder offers young people an alternative path to gain qualifications, offering learners the opportunity to develop their sporting ability alongside their studies. 100% of our students completing their BTEC Level Three progressed into further education or employment. This includes 18-year-old Harriet Powell, who has recently been accepted to study to Sports Performance Analysis at Cardiff Metropolitan University in September. The opportunity to play Futsal alongside studying is one of the many attractions to our courses, however our partnership with Cardiff and Vale College provides learners with the opportunity to compete in a range of sports including netball. Harriet’s decision to pursue netball proved to pay dividends and has seen her recently represent Cardiff and Vale College and continued to represent Cardiff and Vale County. Off the back of this achievement, Harriet was recently selected by Welsh Netball to take part in trials for the Welsh U21 Netball squad. “I was really surprised and proud to be given the opportunity to trial, this was my first time at any Welsh trial so this in itself was a massive achievement for me. “At 18 to be given the opportunity to trial for the Under 21s, I knew it would be hard as many of the players are older and more experienced.” With Cardiff and Vale College’s netball academy not fully launched until September 2017, Harriet had to remain patient, ensuring her focus was maintained on her fitness and practice to give her the best possible chance to succeed in the sport that she loves. “The netball academy is a programme that definitely brought out the best in me and I’ve learnt a number of new skills. It taught the areas of my game I needed to work on to become a better player. “I’ve been playing in the County for the past four years, so I play outside of the College as well, I’d like to pursue a career in netball.” 97% of the Foundation’s students have gone on to attain their qualification and Harriet will now move onto University and continue to develop her education as well as her netball career.
